History
Since 1980, I have been fortunate to have healthy, compassionate, intelligent, and beautiful miniature schnauzers as my family and friends. Our saga starts with two little girls, Luv’s Anuf and Leisha II, who I purchased from Anne Lockney (Ruedesheim) when they were eight weeks. Anne had a reputation of having top quality miniature schnauzers that were healthy and test clear from congenital juvenile cataract, CJC. Anuf and Leisha were my robust companions for 17 plus and 15 years.
Anuf was sired by AKC Champion Wan-El’s Wildfire. He was known as “Pistol” and is probably most remembered as the sire of top producing AKC Champion Ruedesheim’s Bonus. Leisha’s was sired by AKC Champion Ruedesheim’s Momentummm, who was the grandfather of AKC Champion Bark’s My Fair Lady . “Ruthie” produced 11 champions that were sired by Bonus. These two dogs are prominent in most if not all of the pedigrees of Ruedesheim’s current top winning dogs.
Anuf and Leisha were not only my companions, but were the subjects of many photographs. As I taught myself to make colored photographic prints from slides, they were my gray cards from which I calibrated the exposures and adjusted the colors. They loved to go anywhere, and announced their presence loudly and proudly. At that time, I did not know that they could be trained to walk quietly on a leash
Assurances
A copy of the American Kennel Club pedigrees of both parents will be provided at the time of the sale. Litter registration documents, a bill of sale, health guarantee also will be provided at the time of the sale.
I will provide a health guarantee for genetic conditions that can be tested for. i.e, myotonia, progressive retinal atrophy, congenital juvenile cataracts, and delayed onset cataracts. I will refund the original purchase price in the event of one of these conditions. I will not replace a puppy that becomes ill, or dies because it was not properly vaccinated, fed, or did not receive appropriate veterinary care.
This guarantee is null and void upon any evidence of abuse or neglect. Chronic obesity and/or poor hygiene constitute neglect. For the guaranteed to remain in effect, the dog must receive annual veterinary checkups and treatment as prescribed.
Raising Puppies
All puppies are raised in my home and socialized by good friends and neighbors. Starting at three days, puppies are provided with early neurological stimulation, to boost their immune system and future learning abilities. Puppies have their tails docked and dewclaws removed by a veterinarian between 3 and 5 days. For the first three weeks, a water heated pad of a Gaymar pump is used in the whelping box. This temperature controlled pad ensures that puppies are not chilled during the period before they can regulate their temperature. This reduces the chances of the puppies from being effected or becoming ill from any virus for which their dam did not have immunity at the time their birth or to which they were exposed during their first 3 weeks. Baraka puppies begin grooming at three weeks to familiarize them with clippers and toe nail trims. They are provided with stimulating and age appropriate experiences to get a foundation for a puppy that is confident and enjoyable to live with. Puppy potty training pads are introduced at three weeks. Before they leave my home puppies are well on their way to house breaking, and are using a doggie door. They are easy to house break if consistent house breaking is continued.
Additional Exams
Since there are a number of eye problems in the general miniature schnauzer population, Baraka puppies’ eyes are examined at 7 weeks by a veterinarian ophthalmologist. Both parents’ eyes are rechecked annually. Puppies are started on Interceptor, my recommended heartworm prevention, by 7 weeks or earlier if they have outdoor exposure to mosquitoes. At eight weeks, my veterinarian does a fecal exam for the litter, and examines each individual before any puppy leaves my home. So far, our fecal exams have not shown parasites, probably because all the dogs at my house are on monthly Interceptor. Vaccinations are given at 8, 11, and 14 weeks as long as the puppy remains in my possession. Rabies vaccines are given by a veterinarian, usually at the time of the last puppy shot. A health record is provided at the time of purchase.
puppy sales
Baraka Pups Blog has pricing for Specific Puppies. A deposit of $250 is required to hold a puppy. The order of receipt of deposits determines the order the purchaser has in picking a puppy from the litter. If an uncropped puppy is wanted, this needs to be specified by the time the litter is 8 weeks. Deposits are refundable until the puppy or litter reaches 8 weeks. No puppy leaves my house before it is 8 weeks. Ear cropping does not start before 8 weeks and puppies with cropped ears need to stay in my care at least until the stitches are removed in approximately 2 weeks after cropping.
