Zabba & Puppy

Our story and legacy

"Baraka"  means blessing. I chose Baraka  for our kennel name because that is what  my dogs have been to me. I breed miniature schnauzer so other people can experience the Love they exhibit from the day they are born.  My goal in breeding is to conform to the standards for miniature schnauzers as set for by the American Miniature Schnauzer Club.   Equally important to sound conformation is excellent health, an easy to live with temperament, and performance potential.

prospective puppy owners

Baraka puppies are looking for stable people who want to add to their family.  Baraka puppies are great with well socialized children. The puppy should have a responsible adult who is willing to continue the puppies' socialization and training in good dog behavior.  Baraka   miniature  schnauzers are very smart and train their people if they are not trained first. A prospective owner knows that everything on the floor goes in the mouth. If it is on the floor it belongs to them.  Thus, a prospective puppy owner will puppy proof an area where the puppy will be spending time alone.

I breed my dogs to provide an opportunity for other people to own, healthy, well bred, and well socialized miniature schnauzers.   All puppies are sold with an AKC limited registration. This means that the dog, but not its offspring is eligible for AKC registration.  These individuals are qualified to participate in all AKC performance events, but not in conformation.   Dogs with AKC limited registration are expected to be spayed or neutered.  The limited registration protects my line and the keeps the lines we carry from becoming part of a puppy mill or a commercial breeder’s stock.

Baraka miniature schnauzers Now

My good fortune with miniature schnauzers continues with 13 year old  “Zephyr” ,  Ruedesheim’s Comet, UD,  and  “Tess” my beautiful line bred girl, Ruedesheim’s Absolut Awe who was sired by top producing Am/Int’l  Champion Ruedesheim’s Fortune Seeker II.   Equally important to my breeding is my constantly happy girl, “Genie”, Aachen The Beat Goes On.  Genie is the granddaughter of  AKC Champion Ruedesheim’s Bonus.  She was named “Genie” because we got her for her genes and had wishes of her.

Zephyr is my Novice A dog in obedience and we achieved his AKC utility dog (UD) certification.  He is my joy, the calm center of my household, and a gracious host.  Zephyr loves big dogs and enjoys doing a miniature schnauzer dancing/spar with visiting dogs. He rules our pack with just a look or a stance.  While he is nobody's daddy, he is an important mentor to Baraka puppies who always remember him when they come back to visit.

Genie’s first litter was born in 2002, at which time I retired from my day job and became a full time schnauzer mom and grandma.    This litter was sired by AKC Champion Sunshine Palace S. Stockholder.   “Stock”, a black  and  silver  from  a top winning Japanese line, was being shown as a special in the US.   From that litter of three, I kept a salt and pepper female, Aurora of Baraka CD, “Rory”, and a black and silver dog,  “Oscar”, Arising Sun of Baraka.   April Sunshine of Baraka, from that “A” litter, is distinguished as the first puppy I ever sold.

Genie’s other litter, sired by AKC Champion Ruedesheim’s Billionaire, produced enthusiastic social butterfly, Baraka’s Honor to Bani CD, “Honor”.

  Starsky

Honor was bred to black top producing  AKC Champion Premier’s Sudden Impact owned Susanne B, Short, DVM.   “Impact” was also from the Sunshine Palace S kennel, being sired by AKC Champion Sunshine Palace S. Blue Blood.  Honor and Impact’s breeding resulted in Baraka’s Blue Star of Bani, “Starsky”  is who black with a small white star on his chest.

Tess

”Tess” was named for “tesseract”   after a term  invented  by  Madeleine  L’Engle  in her award winning book, “A Wrinkle In Time”.  In the fifth dimension, a   tesseract   is the shortest distance between two points, and allows for travel by in time.   With Tess, I was hoping to bring into Baraka, her genetic heritage.  Especially important was the  double heritage of AKC Champion Rampage Representative and the  proven  success  of  AKC  Champion  Ruedesheim’s Bonus mated to AKC Champion Bark’s My Fair Lady.   The grandmother to Tess was one of their successes.  AKC Champion Ruedesheims I’m Radiant, was bred to AKC Champion Regency’s Absolut and produced Tess’s mom, Ruedesheim’s Absolutly Radiant   Anne Lockney gave Tess   the name,   Ruedesheim’s  Absolut  Awe because  she “had it all” and “there was nothing  that wasn’t correct about her”.  Tess was shown in conformation and earned three points with me, but only received reserve placements with professional handlers. Tess did not like the show ring, but had two daughters by AKC Champion Ruedesheim’s Gold Nugget that produced Canadian and American Champion progeny.

Rory

While Tess hated the conformation ring, she loved the whelping box, and thoroughly enjoyed being a mom.  When Genie saw how much Tess   enjoyed nursing puppies, she turned over all puppy raising to Tess.  Genie, then retired to being Grand Dam, and restricted her own duties to announcing visitors and supervising Tess.

When Tess was bred to Oscar in 2004, I kept   a daughter, that I named Baraka’s  Abbasolutly Zabba after a candy bar made by the Annabelle Candy Company and marked “ long lasting fun”.   Tess’s final litter was sired by Starsky and included both salt and peppers and blacks. I kept both the salt and pepper girl that I named Baraka’s Just Turn Me Loose, and one of the boys, named Baraka Hitches to a Bani Star.  They were born on Zabba’s birthday on August 2, 2006 and are just as much fun as Zabba.

      Zabba

They have been a blessing in my life and I wanted to share them with others.
